Joseph (Red) Lamb, 93, went to be with his Heavenly Father on May 1, 2013. He was born on October 27, 1919 in Mayfield, KY and was the son of the late Rev. Benjamin and Naomi Lamb. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Maggie Patterson Lamb.
He is survived by his devoted daughters and son-in-law, Betsy Lamb of Vinton and Sally Lamb Griffith and husband, Mark of Forest, VA; grandchildren, Stephanie G. Lyman and husband, Thad of Charlottesville, Mark E. Griffith II and wife, Hollyn of Overland Park, Kansas; great grandchildren, Robert Oakley Lyman and Jackson Mark Griffith; and sister, Jane Dockery of Mayfield, KY.
Joseph has been a member of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church for 66 years where he held many positions of responsibility. He was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Methodist Men’s Group. He was a World War II Army Veteran and participated in the Normandy Invasion. He received a Purple Heart at Rome, Italy on June 8, 1944 where he served with the 45th Artillery Division.
After retirement from the Veteran’s Hospital in Salem, VA, he continued to
serve his Lord and spend time with family and friends.
A graveside service celebrating his life will be conducted at 12 noon on Monday, May 6, 2013 at Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton with Pastor B. Failes and Pastor David Vaughan officiating.
