George Raleigh McLeod, 88, of Roanoke and formerly of Memphis, TN passed away Wednesday October 24, 2012. George was born on December 24, 1923 in Durham NC to the late Carl and Annie McLeod. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby McLeod and Linda Milliken. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. Mr. McLeod graduated from Durham High School where he participated in track and football. He entered UNC at Chapel Hill but was called to serve in the US Army in the south pacific during WWII. After the war, he returned to UNC and graduated in 1949. While there he was in Phi Kappa Sigma where he served as president. He was employed by Bristol Meyers Squibb for almost 30 years where he became District Manager in Memphis, TN before retiring in 1988.In 1999 he and his wife moved to Roanoke where he spent his retirement years enjoying oil painting, golfing and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ava Baxter McLeod; children, William Keith McLeod and wife Susan, Atlanta, Ga, Dr. Allen Kirk McLeod and wife Wendy, Roanoke, Elizabeth Leigh McLeod Davis and husband George, Atlanta, Ga; grandchildren, Lauren McLeod, Meagan McLeod, Tyler McLeod, Makayla Davis, Ansley Davis; brother, Leroy L. McLeod and wife Alice, Richmond. Memorial services will be held 2:30 Saturday October 27, 2012 at 2nd Presbyterian Church.
