Shirley Sundeen DeLong, 78, of Roanoke, VA, formerly of Jamestown, NY, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013 in Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem, VA.

She was born on October 26, 1934 in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of Oscar and Gertrude Collins Sundeen. She attended SS Peter and Paul School in Jamestown and was a 1952 graduate of Jamestown High School. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Nazareth Roman Catholic Church in Roanoke, VA.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, friend and “Grammy”. Prior to her illness, she was an accomplished seamstress, who enjoyed sewing for family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry DeLong; four children, Sue (Tom) Benson and Greg DeLong, of Jamestown, NY, Tim (Julie) DeLong of Peyton, CO and Stephanie (Brian) Boush of Salem, VA; eight grandchildren, Amy (Keith) Mait of Chicago, IL, Megan Benson of Savannah, GA, Katie Benson of Buffalo, NY, Amber (Adam) Colberg of McKinney, TX, Cody and Madison DeLong of Jamestown, NY, and Jake and Ethan Boush of Salem, VA.; as well as two great-granddaughters.

Friends will be received at Oakey’s South Chapel from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013. There will not be a funeral service. A memorial mass will be held at a later date in Jamestown, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or to a local Humane Society.
