Lawrence Kelly Franklin, 85, of Blue Ridge, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. He was born in Appomattox County and was a member of the Blue Ridge Church of the Brethren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Edith Jamerson Franklin; brother, George Franklin; sister, Doris Dalton; and son-in-law, Bill Wrobel. Lawrence is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Lane Franklin; daughters, Sandy Wrobel of Atlanta, Sharon Franklin of Roanoke; granddaughters, Stacy Fike and husband Matthew of Weyers Cave, Amy Patterson of Atlanta; great grandchildren, Emma and Jonas Fike of Weyers Cave; sisters, Anne Weakley, Mildred Jean Dunham; and sister-in-law, Gwen Franklin all of Appomattox. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 20, 2012 at Oakey’s East Chapel with the Rev. Glenn Stevens and the Rev. Matthew Fike officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the League for Animal Protection, P. O. Box 561, Fincastle, VA 24090.
