Clara Gillenwater Mawyer, 88 of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 9, 2012. She was a lifetime member of Belmont Baptist Church, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #484, a member of the Rachel Rebekahs # 4, and the Etta Chapter O.E.S. #185.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Mawyer; daughter, Judith M. Crowder; grandson, James Edward McLean; granddaughter, Lori Ann Crowder; her parents, Lola and Earl Gillenwater; sisters, Ouida Johnson and Jean Clements. Clara is survived by four daughters, Joyce M Roberts, Jacqueline M. Preas (Earl), Janet M. Rife (David), and Julia M. Lott (Wayne); one brother, E. Van Gillenwater (Ann); 10 grandchildren, John Robert McLean, Susan E. Baughn, William E. Crowder, Lawrence T. Preas, Kimberly R. Boswell, Heather P. Toryak, Benjamin E. Preas, Glenn M. Rife, Whitney N. Lott, Wayne H. Lott, Jr.; 14 great grandchildren, Renee B. Dick, Amanda N. Baughn, Jason M. Baughn, Ethan T. Preas, Fiona G. Toryak, Savannah L. Preas, Caleb J. Boswell, Joshua A. Boswell, Hannah- Grace Boswell, Isaac S. Boswell, Gabriel D. Toryak, James M. Rife, Ian C. Crowder, Mareike G. Rife; and 2 great great grandchildren, Olivia and Davis Dick. The family would like to express special thanks to Amedysis Hospice Care and Springtree Rehabilitation Center.
A Memorial service will be conducted at 3:00pm Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel with Pastor Drew Boswell officiating.
Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Roanoke Rescue Mission.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 14, 2012, one hour prior to the service at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel, 982-2221, www.oakeys.com.
