Fennis F. Farmer

August 8, 1938 - March 18, 2012

Fennis F. (Fred) Farmer, 73, of Vinton, went to be with his Lord on Sunday afternoon, March 18, 2012, with his family beside him. Fred served in the United States Army, and was retired from Sears, Roebuck & Company. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adrian and Essie Farmer; his brothers, Eddie, Edward, and Derrell Farmer; his brother-in-law, Lawrence Hewitt; and his sisters-in-law, Fern and Doris Farmer.

Surviving is his devoted and loving wife of 34 years, Therese Buchanan Farmer; his brother, Travis L. Farmer and wife, Phyllis, of Merkel, Texas; his sister, Blanche Hewitt, of Merkel, Texas; his sister-in-law, Jynell Farmer, of Abilene, Texas; and several nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

A service celebrating his life will be held at Oakey's North Chapel on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Horace D. Light officiating. Interment will be held in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hollins Road Church of the Brethren, 2404 Hollins Road, Roanoke, VA 24012 or to Texas State Association of Fire Fighters, 627 Radam Lane, Austin, TX 78745. The family will receive friends from 1 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.
