Life Legacy
Helen Marie Bower Evans passed away at age 95 on March 10, 2012. Born in Salem, a graduate of Roanoke College (1936), she resided on Alpine Road in NW Roanoke for 53 years. In accordance with her wishes, she died peacefully in the home she shared with her husband of 58 years, Andrew Moffatt Evans, Sr. (deceased, 2004). Helen is survived by her children, Andrew Moffatt Evans, Jr. and his wife Janet, Samuel Bower Evans, Helen Marie Evans Enfiedjian and her husband Abraham, Michael Sydney Evans and his wife Susan; her gandchildren, Erika Lynn Evans, Erin Leigh Evans, James Michael Evans and his wife Beth, Sarah Rakel Enfiedjian, Sarah Elizabeth (Betsy) Evans Sutta and her husband Ben, Rebecca Anais Enfiedjian and Jennifer Meyers Evans; her great granddaughter, Klover McCullough and her longtime friend and companion, Alice Bruce. Helen has been a stalwart supporter of the Green Ridge Presbyterian Church, the Roanoke Valley Parliamentarians, the Church Women United, the Presbyterian Church Women and many other local organizations. She was well known for her willingness to give, her desire to serve and her contributions to the community. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends, neighbors, Church and community, but all are comforted knowing that her faith unites her with her husband in heaven. As Helen loved flowers, they would be appreciated, but more appreciated would be a gift in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at Green Ridge Presbyterian Church, 7640 Alpine Road, Roanoke 24019, on March 17, 2012 at 1:00 PM. A reception will be held at the Church after the services.
