Oliver Ray Kendrick

January 30, 1930 - December 23, 2011

Oliver Ray Kendrick, 81, of Roanoke, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011. He was born on January 30, 1930, in Pittsylvania County, VA. Oliver was the oldest son of Stanford and Gay Kendrick. Predeceased are his parents, and two brothers; Neal Kendrick, and J. D. Kendrick.

Oliver grew up in Pittsylvania County and lived in Roanoke all of his adult life. He was a longtime employee with Roanoke Fruit and Produce having worked for 51 years, and after he retired, worked for Walmart and Kroger. Oliver was a lifelong role model for his children and grandchildren. All who knew him would say that he was an honest and good man and he never knew a stranger. For many years, he was involved in sports, as an umpire and coach, and continued to support his grandchildren by attending all their games.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Audrey May Kendrick, sons; Ronald Kendrick and his wife Connie, of Roanoke, Danny Kendrick and his wife, Mary, of Roanoke, daughters; Rhonda Agee, of Fredericksburg, VA, Ellen Conner, and her husband, Reggie, of Vinton, Olivia Gregory, and her husband, Danny, of Vinton; twelve grandchildren: Kimberly Fonder, Chris Kendrick, Matthew Agee, Corri Stevens, Sara Kendrick, Ryan Conner, Michael Kendrick, Ashley Conner, Alan Kendrick, Aaron Conner, Austin Gregory, Blake Gregory, and six great grandchildren, sister Teresa Cooke and her husband, Roger, five brothers, Gem Kendrick and his wife, Ella, Ewood Kendrick and his wife Rene, Willis Kendrick, Robert Kendrick and his wife, Gayle, and Michael Kendrick and his wife, Pam.
The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice for their loving care.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 27th, from 2-4:00pm & 6-8:00pm at Oakeyís Vinton Chapel. Services will be conducted at Vinton Baptist Church, where he has been a long time member, by Dr. Bill Booth on Wednesday, December 28th at 11am. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
