Sam Oakey, IV
Vice President
Sam has been surrounded by funeral service his whole life, often coming to work with his dad as a young kid, sporting a suit and tie. While he did little more around the office at that age than stick things in the shredder and make paper airplanes with the receptionists, he eventually developed an understanding and appreciation for what went on at the funeral home every day. During summers throughout high school and college, Sam worked part-time at Oakey’s, learning the industry and finding himself increasingly drawn to the family business. After college, Sam made the decision to pursue funeral service and received his license in May 2018 after completing mortuary school.

Sam is a graduate of Roanoke Catholic School, James Madison University, and John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science. In his free time, Sam enjoys the abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation in southwest Virginia and beyond, including hiking, tennis, golf, skiing, biking, climbing, and more. He also loves traveling, reading, and spending time with his golden retriever/best friend, Ragnar. Sam is an avid supporter of UVA athletics and all the D.C. sports teams, especially the 2018 Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals. Go Caps!

Sam serves on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Southwest Virginia and the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce. He is also the Foster Coordinator for Adopt a Golden Nashville.
